Severe Thunderstorm Watch for Red Deer and surrounding areas

A Severe Thunderstorm Watch has been issued for Red Deer and the surrounding area.

Officials with Environment and Climate Change Canada (ECCC) say conditions are favourable for the development of severe thunderstorms that may be capable of producing strong wind gusts, large hail and heavy rain.

Thunderstorms are expected to develop Tuesday afternoon and persist into the evening.

ECCC says when thunder roars, go indoors as lightning kills and injures Canadians every year.

Officials note that strong wind gusts can damage trees, buildings and overturn vehicles. Large hail can also cause significant damage and injury.
