Child Advocacy Centre holds biennial Battle of Alberta

The Central Alberta Child Advocacy Centre once again held its Battle of Alberta golf tournament this week.

The fourth biennial tournament featured current and former NHLers with the Calgary Flames and Edmonton Oilers organizations in a spirited showdown at the Red Deer Golf & Country Club.

“There’re people in our organization who have been a part of this tournament for many years and have said terrific things about it,” said Dustin Wolf, Flames netminder, who was joined by teammates Justin Kirkland and Ryan Lomberg.

“On the ice, there’s a lot of animosity between everyone, but it’s kind of neat to put that aside, get to know them from a different perspective on the golf course and support a great cause.”

Among the alumni were Craig MacTavish, and Sheldon Kennedy, whose name is on the centre of excellence in Red Deer.

“We are extremely grateful for the support of the community for our Battle of Alberta fundraiser,” said Mark Jones, CACAC CEO.

“The benefactors of the tournament are children and families who so richly deserve having advocates supporting them. We cannot do this without our village. Heartfelt thanks to everyone who participated.”

The Sheldon Kennedy Centre of Excellence is situated on the campus of Red Deer Polytechnic.

The Battle of Alberta is the largest private fundraiser for the organization.
