Jamie Hoover seeking re-election as mayor in Blackfalds, and school board seat

Blackfalds Mayor Jamie Hoover is doubling down in the upcoming municipal election, set for Oct. 20.

Hoover announced in a release this week he will seek re-election, and also a seat as school board trustee for Wolf Creek Public Schools.

For mayor, he’ll be taking on council colleague Laura Svab.

Hoover has been mayor since 2021, and served one term on council starting in 2017.

“I’m incredibly proud of what we’ve accomplished together in Blackfalds over the past few years. From recreation expansions and infrastructure improvements to stronger regional partnerships, I’ve worked hard to serve our residents and support the growing needs of our youth and families,” says Hoover, who is a military veteran, former EMS and former business owner.

“But there’s still more work to do. In a time when many mayors across the region are stepping away, I feel a strong sense of responsibility to continue the steady, collaborative leadership we’ve built. I care deeply about this community—its future, its people, and especially its young families—and I look forward to continuing that work both as mayor and on the Wolf Creek school board.”

Hoover notes he has championed regional collaboration, infrastructure investment, and family-focused growth throughout central Alberta, and represented Blackfalds in multiple regional partnerships, including water and wastewater commissions, economic development alliances, and school planning initiatives.

As of Aug. 6, Hoover is the only candidate for Blackfalds mayor, with five up for council seats.
