Lacombe Police seeking driver who fled traffic stop using floodlight

Aug 5, 2025 | 1:13 PM

Lacombe Police Service (LPS) is seeking assistance to identify the driver in an alleged dangerous driving incident over the long weekend.

At approximately 2:30 a.m. on Monday, Aug. 4, a Lacombe Police officer attempted to initiate a traffic stop on a white Chevrolet Silverado.

According to LPS, the driver responded by pulling out a handheld floodlight to blind the officer through the driver-side window. The suspect is said to have then accelerated away at high speed, preventing the officer from obtaining a license plate number.

As the vehicle fled eastbound on Highway 12, police say it then veered into the path of an oncoming police vehicle, and appeared to intentionally attempt a head-on collision. The suspect vehicle was last seen turning northbound on 53 Street.

“This individual’s actions posed a serious and deliberate threat to the safety of our officers and the public,” said Chief Jason Dobirstein.

“We are asking anyone who may have witnessed this incident or has information about the vehicle or driver to come forward. Your assistance is vital in helping us hold this person accountable and prevent further danger to our community.”

Anyone with information should call the Lacombe Police Service at 403-782-3279, or your local police detachment. Anonymous tips can also be submitted to Crime Stoppers at 1-800-222-8477 (TIPS) or online at www.p3tips.com.
