Podcast: ‘Rock the Track’ in Rimbey Aug. 7-9 with Theory of a Deadman, Tom Cochrane and more

Jul 25, 2025 | 6:52 AM

Prepare to have your face rocked off if you plan to attend the second annual Rock the Track music festival, Aug. 7-9 at Rimbey’s Central Alberta Raceways.

If you don’t yet have tickets, what are you waiting for?

The festival is co-headlined by Theory of a Deadman and Tom Cochrane, along with a smorgasbord of other excellent Canadian content in Moist, Trooper, Chilliwack on their farewell tour, plus The Blue Stones, The Prairie States, Neon Smoke, Nashville Nights, and DJ Anthem.

There’ll be camping, the Frank Wilson Memorial Bull Ride on Friday, as well as a ’90s kickoff party!

And it’s all put together by Terry Raymond, president of the Fire and Flood Emergency Services Speedway Society.

Speaking to rdnewsNOW and The Everything Red Deer Podcast, Raymond explains the organization has hosted motorsport events at the oval in Rimbey for kids, particularly those who are underprivileged. The music festival will support those types of initiatives done by the society going forward.

“I really felt this would be something that would be a lot of fun and get everybody together after the things we missed over some of these [recent] years,” says Raymond of his vision for the festival, and alluding to the COVID-19 pandemic.

“Last year, I didn’t see as many cellphones, and people were connecting and talking, just enjoying the evening. Everything went very well and it was respectful, there wasn’t one fight, or one impaired.”

That’s one key piece of the music festival — it’s for all ages, so Raymond is emphatic about it being a positive environment.

“We’d like to keep it that way. I see the kids having fun and learning from people around them, enjoying things,” says Raymond. “And you know what? It could spark or ignite in some young boy or girl what they want to do. It’s a good way to give them [some] perspective.”

One of the guys who’ll be trying to rock everyone’s faces off is Tyler Connolly, frontman for B.C.-based rock band Theory of a Deadman, who also spoke to rdnewsNOW and The Everything Red Deer Podcast.

Connolly and his bandmates are celebrating 26 years in the biz this year, not to mention 20 years since the release of their iconic album Gasoline.

“Come out, enjoy yourself! I love Alberta, and Alberta was one of the first markets we ever went and played; the first time we played Red Deer, we played a place called The Catwalk, and it was such a rowdy show,” Connolly reminisced, on the phone from Los Angeles.

“It always is a bit rowdy when we go to Alberta, but we have a great time too and we try to make people smile. We’re going to play a ton of songs and the hits. It’s going to be great.”

Theory of a Deadman has a new album slated for release in early 2026, he shared.

“We’re going to go until we all probably die,” he quipped. “It’s such a fun ride, we love it so much, and as long as the fans keep coming, it’s something we’ll continue to do.”

Tickets for Rock the Track 2025 are available through Showpass. Ticket options include all-weekend passes, single-day passes, camping passes, and more, plus an opportunity to take advantage of a bus shuttle going to Rimbey from Bo’s Bar and Stage.
