Jul 23, 2025 | 1:03 PM

Red Deer County has announced its “Farm to Table Tour” is set to return on August 15.

The tour will give participants the opportunity to tour three local farms to learn about the different aspects of food production, including technology used and the people involved.

Those taking part in the tour will also be served an appetizer, main course and dessert.

“Understanding the source of our food is vital, and Red Deer County boasts some of the finest farms and producers in central Alberta,” said Mayor Jim Wood, in a media release. “There is a lot of dedication from those who genuinely care about cultivating quality food.”

This is the second year Red Deer County is collaborating with Alberta Open Farm Days to host the Farm to Table Tour.

During the tour, they’ll first visit Lac La Nonne Dairy to tour the dairy barns and see how milk is produced. They’ll then head to Sylvan Star Cheese to learn how the milk is turned into cheese.

Chef Rieley, from Cilantro and Chive, will create an appetizer featuring the cheese from Sylvan Star Cheese and guests will get to sample cheese and shop at the farm store.

Next up, they’ll tour the Iron Kreek Ranch where participants will be educated about raising beef cattle and learn about the many conservation projects the Ziola family have completed.

Following that, participants will get to eat the main course featuring brisket from Iron Kreek Ranch, presented by Chef William with the Red Deer Food Bank.

The last tour will be at Hidden Valley Garden U-Pick. Owner Jamie will tour the group around her fruit orchards and veggie garden u-pick.

Meantime, Chef Miranda, from Red Deer Polytechnic will serve a dessert featuring berries from Hidden Valley Garden.

The night will end with the opportunity to shop at the farm store and do some veggie u-picking.
