Sylvan Lake Gulls Tyler Boudreau signs with New York Yankees

Longtime Sylvan Lake Gulls pitcher Tyler Boudreau has signed a professional deal with the New York Yankees.

The historic franchise signed the undrafted free agent following the recent 2025 Major League Baseball draft earlier this week.

“I am very excited to announce that I will be starting my professional career as a New York Yankee,” Boudreau wrote in a social media post. “I want to thank my parents, friends, and family for the love and support over the years. I couldn’t have done it without y’all.”

Boudreau was born and raised in Nova Scotia, but later on found a home in Calgary.

In Grade 10, he began his baseball career by joining the Vauxhall Academy of Baseball in Vauxhall, Alta. and played there until Grade 12.

He’s played five seasons with the Gulls and even moved to the community in 2023. He also suited up in the college ranks for Midland College and Texas Tech University

“Congrats to Sylvan Lake’s own Ty Boudreau,” the Town of Sylvan Lake wrote in a Facebook post. “We’re proud to call you a Gull, and even more proud to call you and your family Lakers!! Good luck, kid!”

The 22-year-old righty was consistently an arm the Gulls relied on, throwing the franchise’s first-ever no-hitter over the Weyburn Beavers in 2022. That year he had one of his best statistical seasons in the Western Canadian Baseball League finishing the year with 72 strikeouts.

In 2023, he also had an impressive campaign posting a 5-1 record as a starter with a 1.54 earned run average (ERA).

Meantime in 2025, he only appeared in four games in Sylvan Lake before signing with the Yankees, striking out 24 batters and posting a 1.84 ERA with a 1-0 record.

Gulls President and COO Aqil Samuel said the entire organization would like the congratulate Boudreau on the news of his signing

“An original Gull from the 2021 season, Ty’s skill and demeanour on the mound have been a pleasure to watch. His interactions in the community, especially with young Gulls fans, really speaks to the type of person he is. He has represented the Gulls well these last five years, and we wish him the best in his pursuit to make the Major Leagues,” he said in an emailed statement.

“The Gulls are proud of all of our players who have had the opportunity to get to professional baseball: Jonah Weisner, Tyler Hampu, Owen Pote, Nathan Flewelling, and now Ty Boudreau. We want to continue to develop our reputation throughout North America as an organization that can help players advance their careers in baseball.”
