Red Deer athletes win 51 medals at Special Olympics Alberta Summer Games

Red Deer athletes returned from the 2025 Special Olympics Alberta Summer Games with some hardware.

Held from July 11-13 in Grande Prairie, a total of 71 athletes, coaches and support personnel took part in the three-day event, which featured 800 athletes from Alberta and the Northwest Territories.

Athletes from Red Deer competed in seven of the 10 sports in the Summer Games including softball, soccer, bocce, swimming, athletics, golf, and power lifting.

As a result, every Red Deer athlete came home with at least one medal. In fact, Special Olympics Red Deer returned with a record 51 medals including 18 gold, 15 silver, and 18 bronze.

Next up, over the next few weeks Team Alberta will announce the athletes who will represent the province at the upcoming Special Olympics National Games in Medicine Hat in 2026.
