Wetaskiwin RCMP respond to fatal collision on Highway 2A

The Wetaskiwin RCMP responded to a head-on collision between a pick-up truck and a small SUV that claimed two lives on Tuesday evening.

The collision occurred on July 1 at approximately 7:30 p.m. on Highway 2A just south of Wetaskiwin city limits.

Police and EMS rescued two occupants from a burning vehicle but unfortunately a 61-year-old man from California and a 64-year-old woman from Wetaskiwin were found dead at the scene.

All occupants of the other vehicle were taken to hospital with serious life-threatening injuries.

Police closed a portion of the highway for several hours while they investigated and the investigation has continued with the assistance of the K-Division Collision Analyst team and the Wetaskiwin General Investigation Unit.
