UCP’s Tara Sawyer officially declared winner of Olds-Didsbury-Three Hills by-election

Elections Alberta has announced the official result of the Olds-Didsbury-Three Hills by-election on June 23.

United Conservative Party of Alberta candidate Tara Sawyer has been deemed the winner with 9,362 votes of the 15,363 votes cast.

A total of 38.8 per cent of 39,592 eligible voters cast their ballot in the Olds-Didsbury-Three Hills riding which was the most out of the three by-elections held that day including Edmonton-Ellerslie with 24.5 per cent and Edmonton-Strathcona at 32 per cent.

Sawyer went up against Bev Toews (NDP) with 3,063 votes, Cameron Davies (RPA) 2,708 votes, and Bill Tufts (WLC)189 votes.

Elections Alberta reports 65.1 per cent voted on Election Day followed by 32.7 per cent during advance voting, one per cent by special ballot, and 1.3 per cent by mobile voting.

Meantime, the NDP’s Gurtej Brar was elected in the Edmonton-Ellerslie riding and Naheed Nenshi in Edmonton-Strathcona.

A total of 8,535 votes were cast out of 34,868 eligible voters in Edmonton-Ellerslie and 9,725 total votes were cast out of 30,374 eligible voters in Edmonton-Strathcona.
