Two new members join Alberta Sports Hall of Fame board of directors

The Alberta Sports Hall of Fame is sharing some changes to its board of directors.

Dr. Tom Thompson and Destiny Whitney are the board’s two newest members, while current chair Dale Henwood and director Jasen Pratt are outgoing.

“We are pleased to welcome Dr. Tom Thompson and Destiny Whitney to our board of directors. Tom and Destiny each bring an incredible depth of knowledge, leadership, and passion for sport, education, and community. Their experience will strengthen our organization as we continue to grow and honour Alberta’s rich sport heritage,” says Tracey Kinsella, executive director.

“On behalf of the board, I would also like to extend our sincere thanks to Dale Henwood and Jasen Pratt for their service. Dale’s leadership as board chair has guided the Hall through meaningful growth and change, and both he and Jasen have shown an unwavering commitment to Alberta’s sport community that will continue to inspire our work.”

Per the Hall:

Dr. Tom Thompson brings decades of high-level experience in post-secondary education, athletics, and organizational governance. A former president of Olds College and Grande Prairie Regional College, Dr. Thompson has also held leadership roles with the Calgary Stampeders, Saskatchewan Roughriders, and Michigan Panthers, reflecting a deep commitment to building inclusive and sustainable communities through sport and education.

Destiny Whitney is an accomplished Indigenous sport leader and LPGA Class A Member. As General Manager of the Seven Chiefs Sportsplex, she has advanced Indigenous sport development, launched innovative youth programs, and championed diversity, equity, and inclusion through her strategic leadership and advocacy for women and Indigenous athletes.

Murray Cunningham will take over the board chair role going forward.
