Red Deer man arrested in Lacombe on suspicion of drug trafficking

Jun 27, 2025 | 11:25 AM

The Lacombe Police Service (LPS) has charged a Red Deer man with weapon and drug offenses.

LPS says in a release on Friday that it was about 9:50 a.m. on June 15 when officers located a black 2017 Dodge Ram truck suspiciously parked behind a local motel.

There, a male subject was found passed out in the vehicle, and he was arrested on scene.

During the investigation and incidental to the arrest, they say, police observed a bag containing approximately 20 grams of methamphetamine, a large hunting knife strapped to the centre console, and a replica AR-15 rifle next to the driver’s seat.

LPS says the gun was nearly indistinguishable from a real firearm, and easily accessible to the driver.

Digital scales, packing materials, and a ledger used to track alleged drug transactions — all materials consistent with drug trafficking, LPS notes — were also recovered.

At the time of the arrest the man, 34-year-old Joseph MacInnis, was found to be bound by multiple court-imposed conditions.

He is now charged with:

• Possession for the Purpose of Trafficking – Methamphetamine

• Fail to Comply with a Probation Order

• Possession of a weapon for a Dangerous Purpose

His vehicle was also seized for a 24-hour period, along with a 24-hour driver’s license suspension due to drug impairment.

The Lacombe Police Service encourages the public to remain vigilant and report suspicious activities.
