Lacombe Police Service reports recent rise in bike thefts

The Lacombe Police Service is reporting a recent increase in bicycle thefts in the community.

Over the past several weeks, there has been a rise in reports of stolen bikes and police say bicycle owners should take steps to reduce the risk of theft.

These crimes are often done on opportunity, police say. With that being said, residents are encouraged to use a high quality lock when leaving bikes unattended.

Police also recommend bike owners document their bicycles by taking pictures and recording the serial number. This information helps police identify and return recovered bikes.

Those who are missing a bike are encouraged to call LPS and provide a description along with any other available information.
