École Our Lady of the Rosary School has announced that Grade 2 French Immersion Teacher Kaela Masikewich has been awarded the prestigious Alberta French Educator of the Year Award.

Officials say the award was presented to Masikewich in front of her students and colleagues at the conclusion of the school’s Christian Leadership Awards ceremony on the morning of Tuesday, June 17.

The Alberta French Educator of the Year Award is presented annually by Canadian Parents for French (Alberta branch) and the Alberta French Language Education Consortium, recognizing outstanding contributions to French language education in the province.

Joel Peterman, Vice Principal at École Our Lady of the Rosary School, nominated Masikewich for the award, stating she fosters a strong and engaging French learning environment within the school community.

He says her commitment to high expectations, balanced with empathy, ensures that students feel both challenged and supported in their language-learning journey.

“Kaela is an exceptional educator and leader, deeply committed to student success not only in learning French, but in developing confidence, resilience, and a love for the language,” said Peterman, in a press release, praising Masikewich’s dedication. “She has empowered her students to believe in themselves, embrace challenges, and strive for excellence in their language-learning journey. I was happy to recommend her and now I am so proud to congratulate Kaela for this award.”

“Being nominated for the Alberta French Educator of the Year award was such an incredible honour, and to have actually received it still feels surreal,” she said. “I’m truly overwhelmed with gratitude,” said Masikewich, expressing her gratitude upon receiving the honour.

Trish Rognvaldson, Manager of Programming for CPF Alberta and NWT from Canadian Parents for French, highlighted Masikewich’s exceptional qualities.

“With over 30 applicants across the province this year, Kaela’s application stood out because of her passion and commitment to French Immersion instruction. Congratulations Kaela!”

The entire École Our Lady of the Rosary School community congratulates Kaela Masikewich on this well-deserved recognition of her passion and dedication to French Immersion education.
