For the first time, local author Murray Moffatt has made the Town of Innisfail a featured location in one of his mystery novels.

In the just released “Go West For Murder”, Brantford, Ontario-based law firm investigator Shane Daniels travels to Innisfail to track down Wil Evans, who was recently released from the Bowden Institution. Evans, who had been in prison for a deadly home invasion in Innisfail, is estranged from his family and is unaware he has inherited a fortune following the death of his father. But Evans is in trouble, and when Shane arrives in Innisfail, he ends up right in the middle of it.

“Go West For Murder” is Moffatt’s ninth novel and the eighth featuring Shane Daniels, who was first introduced in “Murder Best Unsolved.”

Moffatt is a former broadcast journalist and senior public relations consultant who moved from Ontario to Innisfail in 2019 and began writing novels as a retirement hobby.

“It’s suggested that when you start writing, you write what you know,” Moffatt said. “I was the news director of the radio stations in Brantford, Ontario, for 10 years, so I had an intimate knowledge of the city. But I’ve been in Alberta long enough now to feel comfortable about writing about my adopted hometown,” says Moffatt, in a press release.

In addition to being available through Amazon.ca and Kobo Books, all of Moffatt’s previous novels are in the Innisfail Public Library.

“The Innisfail Library has been incredibly supportive in allowing my novels to be in the permanent collection,” Moffatt said. “It means a lot to me that people have an opportunity to read my novels.”
