Donated Land

Lacombe County encouraging residents to help shape the future of Abma Pit

Jun 19, 2025 | 10:55 AM

Lacombe County is inviting the public to an upcoming open house regarding a land donation made to the county.

County officials say the Abma family donated the property – a gravel pit located near the intersection of Township Road 410 and Range Road 275 – to Lacombe County in 2012. One of the Abma’s conditions of the donation agreement, however, was that the land be used for recreational purposes for the benefit of the general public once gravel extraction activities were completed.

With aggregate extraction nearing completion, Lacombe County says it has hired a professional planning and design consultant to create a vision for reclaiming the site and transforming it into a new public recreational area for the community and the county wants public input.

The open house will take place Tuesday, July 15, from 6:00 to 8:00 p.m. at the Lacombe County Administration Building (40403 Range Road 274, RR #3).

Officials say this open house is a chance for residents and stakeholders to:

• Meet with the County’s consultant and staff

• Explore early design concepts

• Share your ideas for the site’s future • Provide input on potential amenities and features

If you’re unable to attend in person, the Lacombe County website will host an online survey from July 15 to August 7. Officials say this survey mirrors the in-person content and offers an opportunity to share your feedback and vision for the reclaimed site.
