Lacombe Police Service continues to investigate after finding one of two stolen vehicles

Jun 17, 2025 | 4:22 PM

The Lacombe Police Service continue to investigate after two vehicles were stolen from a residence in Lacombe on Monday.

On June 16, police responded to a call on Monday morning from a resident who discovered his personal truck and his roommate’s work truck had been stolen from their residence in the 5200 block of 49th Street.

The preliminary investigation has shown a suspect or suspects unlawfully entered the residence and stole multiple sets of key that had been left on a ledge. They then used the keys to steal the vehicles. A wallet, identification, and other personal items were also reported stolen from inside one of the trucks.

However, the stolen 2025 black GMC Sierra crew cab is equipped with GPS tracking, which unveiled it had traveled approximately 80 kilometres since the time of the theft and was located in Leduc, Alberta.

Lacombe Police coordinated with Leduc RCMP, who conducted patrols in the area of the Edmonton Internation Airport.

The stolen work truck was later located unoccupied near an area service station. However, surveillance footage helped police identify the suspect, who was arrested without incident.

As a result, John Knox, 50, has been charged with possession of stolen property over $5,000.

A Judicial Interim Release Hearing was held, and Knox is scheduled to appear back in court on July 10 at the Alberta Court of Justice in the City of Leduc.

The other vehicle, a 2019 black Chevrolet Silverado (Alberta License plate BTH 6560), was also stolen during the incident and has not been located.

The investigation is ongoing, and efforts to locate the vehicle continue.
