Lacombe Police Service arrest man after brief chase down Highway 2

Jun 17, 2025 | 9:52 AM

The Lacombe Police Service arrested a 24-year-old man from Grimshaw after he evaded police in a vehicle reported stolen.

On July 16 at approximately 10:50 a.m., an officer on patrol noticed a red 2004 Ford F-350 parked at the west end of Henderson Way in Lacombe.

After police turned around to investigate, the suspect began to drive away. Police determined the vehicle was reported stolen in Airdrie.

The suspect was last seen turning westbound onto Highway 12 and then proceeding northbound on Highway 2.

This sparked Lacombe police to work with the Ponoka RCMP and nearby officers to conduct a safe stop. However, while doing that, the suspect rammed a marked police vehicle before he continued down the median on Highway 2.

Police then decided to pull back all attempts of stopping the vehicle because of public safety reasons. Shortly after, Alberta Sheriffs located the abandoned vehicle further north in the median.

Lacombe Police, with assistance from RCMP K9 and drone support, then tracked the suspect to a nearby rural property west of Highway 2 where he was found hiding.

As a result, the suspect was arrested without incident and is facing multiple charges including:

  • Flight from peace officer
  • Resist/obstruct peace officer
  • Mischief over $5,000
  • Dangerous operation of a motor vehicle
  • Possession of stolen property over $5,000
  • Failure to stop after an accident
