Alberta Health Services has announced that a new family physician has been recruited to Sylvan Lake and area.

The Sylvan Medical Center and Sylvan Lake Advanced Ambulatory Care Service welcomed Dr. Carli Van Dyk.

Those needing a family doctor can call 403-887-2221 to schedule a meet-and-greet appointment.

“It’s a pleasure to announce the arrival of Dr. Van Dyk to Sylvan Lake,” said Devin Dreeshen, Minister of Transportation and Economic Corridors, and MLA for Innisfail-Sylvan Lake. “Her expertise will have a positive impact on our community, making a real difference in the health and well-being of local residents.”

She went to medical school at Stellenbosch University in South Africa and practised in Cape Town, South Africa for six years before moving to Canada.

Dr. Van Dyk is the sixth physician to join the Sylvan Medical Center and is now the 18th doctor in the community.

“Sylvan Lake is ideally situated in central Alberta,” Dr. Van Dyk added. “It is a family friendly community with plenty of things to do, and a beautiful lake to enjoy.”

Her hobbies include being active outdoors, cooking and baking, reading and writing, and spending time with her husband.

AHS said they are actively looking to bring more physicians to central Alberta including the use of physician resource planners who are dedicated to identifying and pursuing international and domestic physician recruitment opportunities.
