Red Deer’s Lori Cartwright has been recognized for her work in the community.

As a nominee for the Canadian Realtors Care Award, she has supported a number of charities in the region but most notably, has served as a volunteer advocate at the Red Deer City Victim Services Unit and was one of the first volunteers at the Central Alberta Child Advocacy Centre.

“Lori’s impact on the Central Alberta Child Advocacy Centre has been game changing. It doesn’t matter where you look,” said Mark Jones, CEO and Founder of the Central Alberta Child Advocacy Centre. “Lori’s got her fingerprints in there, and it’s in such a positive way.”

With Red Deer Victim Services, Cartwright provides support for victims of crisis and trauma by providing home visits, family notifications of sudden death, in-court support, and system navigation.

Meantime, with the Central Alberta Child Advocacy Centre, the local realtor supports children and families who’ve experienced child abuse.

“I never want anyone to feel like there’s scary stuff out there, whatever it is, and that they’re walking through it alone,” Cartwright said.

She’s also worked with Make-A-Wish Canada where she helps recruit volunteers for fundraising events and has donated personally. Throughout her time volunteering with the organization, she’s coordinated 20 wish reveals.

“She is Make-A-Wish Red Deer. How she does it is magic really. She finds every possible avenue to integrate the community, their interests and everybody to show the power that they have,” said Jen Garden, Chapter Director, Northern Alberta, Make-A-Wish Canada. “And that child sees that so many more people care about their well-being than just their immediate network.”
