Building permit values saw bump in May compared to last year

Building permit values in Red Deer saw a bump this May.

There were 128 permits issued last month, worth $19 million, up from 92 issued worth $5.6 million in May 2024.

In May 2023, there were 104 permits worth $7.9 million, and May 2022 had 110 permits worth $35 million.

Year-to-date values are slightly behind last year, at just over $55 million from 418 permits.

Last year’s total through May was $56.9 million with 420 permits.

January through May 2023 saw 401 permits worth $35 million, while the same span in 2022 had 349 permits valued at nearly $77 million.

Notable permits for May 2025 include:

• Building permit for construction of a 148 suite apartment building at 6 Colby Avenue, valued at $11.7 million

• Building permit for relocation of emergency generator at Red Deer Regional Hospital, 3942 50A Avenue, valued at $1.3 million

• Building permit for tenant improvements at 150-4919 59 Street, valued at $406,000

• Building permit for construction of a new, detached single family dwelling with ground level legal suite and attached garage at 28 Toye Street, valued at $330,000

• Building permit for demolition and rebuilding of Red Deer Rebels dressing room at 4847 19 Street, valued at $300,000
