RCMP investigating after trespassers cause mischief at Sunnybrook Farm Museum

Jun 10, 2025 | 9:54 AM

Red Deer RCMP are investigating another case of trespassing and mischief at Sunnybrook Farm Museum.

The incident took place just after midnight on Sunday, June 8.

Five or six youth can be seen on security camera footage strolling through the museum’s grounds with bicycles.

RCMP note they could also be seen cutting the lock on the stables, which had animals inside.

No animals were harmed, says Ian Warwick, the museum’s executive director.

And while Warwick is doubtful anyone will be caught, nevermind charged, he laments the fact it happened in the first place, even it was a prank.

“These folks have become more sophisticated, they wear hoodies, cover their faces, and it’s a constant struggle for us,” says Warwick, who’s had people try and steal money from their donation cans, which are now left empty at the end of each day.

“Every year, we increase the number and quality of the security cameras. It’s frustrating to volunteers, because all of this was given to us and we’re the stewards of it. When people come and mess with it, it makes us really disheartened. It makes it really frustrating for us try and maintain all of this for the good of all Red Deerians.”
