Lacombe-based Echo Food Rescue wins Emerald Award
Lacombe’s Echo Food Rescue has been named a recipient of an Emerald Award, which celebrates environmental achievements and highlights organizations who create change in their communities.
Presented by the Alberta Emerald Foundation, Echo Food Rescue was recognized for their work in keeping food on peoples plates, rather than in the landfill.
Over the last three years, they’ve redirected approximately 500,000 pounds of food from the landfill and in 2025 alone, they’re on track to rescue 360,000 pounds. This will set them up to reach 900,000 pounds by the end of the year.
“We’re beyond grateful to the Alberta Emerald Foundation for this recognition,” said Christina Sturgeon, Manager of Echo Food Rescue. “This award isn’t just about Echo—it’s about our volunteers, community partners, and every single person who believes in the power of the change that can happen when a community comes together.”
