Westerner Park unveils Marchant Crane Centrium

The home of the Red Deer Rebels has a new name.

On Thursday at a ceremony at Westerner Park, they unveiled the new Marchant Crane Centrium as part of a naming rights partnership with the central Alberta-based company.

Founder of Marchant Crane Inc. Chris Marchant said this has been a vision of his for over a decade.

“There was an opportunity 10-15 years ago at an event for the naming of the Centrium and since that moment, I don’t know why but I knew I had to do this one day,” he said.

The new naming rights deal marks just the third time the Centrium has been associated with a brand other than Westerner Park. The first was Enmax and most recently, Peavey Mart.

Marchant said seeing his company name displayed on the iconic hockey rink was “unreal.”

“I think this is going to help [make us a household name]. I think we are going to be here for a long time and I hope to create a legacy in the next decade,” he added.

Shelly Flint, CEO of Westerner Park, said they’re excited to partner with Marchant Crane and added they’re looking forward to the partnership and are planning an activation for next year.

“Ever since Peavey Mart notified us they wouldn’t be continuing we opened it up to the community and Marchant Crane were very excited and we were excited to what they could bring to the table on community activations,” Flint said.

Tyler Nightingale, president and board chair Westerner Park said the situation with Peavey Mart closing stores across the country and ultimately, not renewing naming rights with the Centrium, was tragic.

“Seeing that happen was a shock and a surprise… That was an outcome nobody saw coming and nobody wanted,” he said.

“I’ve been in this room when the Peavey Mart went up and it was good energy and that energy fulfilled for the last five years… This is a place where you’re going to see in the next five years big things happen, national events. It’s terrific to see this partnership take off on day one and I’m so excited for it.”

Marchant Crane is a crane and lifting solutions provider based out of Sylvan Lake.
