Parking accessibility

City of Red Deer adds new parking pay stations and wayfinding signs downtown

Jun 3, 2025 | 4:24 PM

The City of Red Deer has announced they’ve improved parking accessibility with new parking pay stations and wayfinding signs.

In fact, seven new parking pay stations were installed in downtown Red Deer this month. Officials say the move was made in an effort to improve usability and accessibility for residents and visitors.

The new wayfinding signs were installed to help residents and visitors locate pay stations easily throughout downtown Red Deer. The city says the addition is in response to customer feedback.

“We’ve listened to the community and are excited to enhance the parking experience with new pay stations and wayfinding signs,” said Stephanie Gramlich, Parking Coordinator. “Our goal is to provide a variety of payment options to suit different user types, and to ultimately make parking as convenient and user-friendly as possible for everyone who visits downtown.”

The work, which began in 2024, relocated two pay stations including one from the north side of 50 Street near the parking lot P8 entrance, closer to Gaetz Memorial United Church.

The other was moved from 54 Street to 50 Street between 48 Avenue and 49 Avenue, near Rexall Pharmacy and IDA Pharmacy.

Meanwhile, the new pay stations were installed in May along with accompanying signage in 41 locations. There are now a total of 27 pay stations.

New pay stations are located at the following locations:

  • Corner of 52 Street and 48 Avenue, near parking lot P12
  • Corner of 51 Street and 49 Avenue, near the Provincial Government Building
  • 50 Street between 51 Avenue and 50 Avenue, near Marvel College
  • 50 Street between 48 Avenue and 47 Avenue, near Co-Op Pharmacy
  • 49 Street between 50 Avenue and 51 Avenue, near Delmar College
  • Corner of 49 Street and 49 Avenue, near Pack & Post
  • Corner of 48 Street and 48 Avenue, near the Red Deer Justice Centre

The locations were selected based on customer feedback and all pay stations will now accept payment in the form of coins, Visa, MasterCard, contactless tap (Visa, MasterCard, Interac), Visa Debit, prepaid Visa and MasterCard gift cards, Apple Pay and Google Pay.

For those who prefer to manage their parking digitally, the HotSpot app and fast tap signs remain available as convenient alternatives to pay stations.

In addition, updated maps of parking zones and pay station locations are available on the City of Red Deer website.
