The Chinook’s Edge School Division welcomed Ryan Sawula as the new superintendent after officially starting his new role on Monday.

He looks forward to visiting all of the schools within the Division for the first time over the next few weeks.

“I am excited to be officially a part of Chinook’s Edge. I appreciate the warm welcome,” Sawula said in a media release. “I hope to connect with our staff and schools this spring, and then again throughout the coming school year.”

Simultaneously, the division also bid farewell to Kurt Sacher, who retired from his role as superintendent after 15 years.

As a result, school and division based administrators, school board trustees, and division office staff gathered on May 21 to express gratitude and appreciation for what he has accomplished and contributed. They also shared fond memories.

“I was touched and deeply honoured that people took the time to celebrate with me in the way they did. Thank you to everyone who has shared their appreciation and best wishes with me,” Sacher said. “I have thoroughly enjoyed looking back at all we have accomplished together through both the amazing times and the difficult times. It has always been a privilege to be the superintendent in Chinook’s Edge over the last 15 years. I will forever be honoured to have my name connected to the incredible people who work in such a caring school division where relationships matter at every level.”

Furthermore, associate superintendent Shawn Russell said the celebration highlighted the many ways Sacher had a lasting impact on the division.

“I was honoured to be part of celebrating both Kurt’s career and Kurt as a person,” Russell added.
