Olds RCMP arrest man for illegal hand gun possession

Olds RCMP arrested a man last week allegedly in possession of an illegal hand gun.

Mounties say the 30-year-old suspect has been charged with unsafe storage of a firearm, possession of a prohibited firearm, unauthorized possession of a firearm, and possession of a firearm when knowing possession is unauthorized.

The suspect was arrested after police received information on Thursday, May 29 that he had an illegal handgun.

Officers conducted a search warrant with assistance from the RCMP Emergency Response Team and Police Dog Services due to the nature of the call. Members successfully completed the search warrant of a motorhome and the man was taken into custody.

“Olds RCMP remains fully committed in building safer communities by working in partnership with our community as well as through investigative and enforcement efforts to achieve this goal,” as stated in a media release. “Olds RCMP would like to thank the RCMP’s Emergency Response Team for their assistance during this incident.”

Police say the suspect was taken before a Justice of the Peace and released. The suspect is scheduled to appear at the Alberta Court of Justice in Didsbury on June 16.
