RDES responds to large fire in West Park Friday evening

May 30, 2025 | 7:22 PM

Red Deer Emergency Services are responding to a large fire in the West Park neighbourhood.

Assistant Deputy Chief with RDES, Evan Stewart, says they got the call at 6:44 to Revy Townhomes at 4250 54 Avenue — just behind and across from the Outreach Centre building.

Stewart tells rdnewsNOW that three townhomes have taken significant damage, with damage also to a fourth. There’s also damage to one business across the street, on the other side of 43 Street, due to flying embers.

The fire, however, is under control and all occupants have been accounted for; though he did say it’s too early to say with respect to pets.

Two people were treated on scene for minor burns, he adds.

Five engines and two ladder trucks responded.

One witness who was in the area has told rdnewsNOW he heard multiple explosions.

Stewart could not confirm explosions but said there may have been some pops as the fire worked its way through the backside of the homes.

He also said the fire department is working with families to get them the resources they need.

The city is asking people to stay clear of the area so that crews can work.

More to come…
