Local McDonald’s locations raised a very nice chunk of money during the recent McHappy Day on May 8.

The annual fundraiser benefits Ronald McDonald House Charities (RMHC) and others, across Canada.

Between Red Deer and Lacombe, a total of $36,000 was raised.

“It is very important for us at SSC Family Restaurants Ltd. to get involved in the community and to give back to the people who are our guests and to the community where we work,” says Abdul Tunzamali, operations supervisor for several McDonald’s locations in Red Deer and Lacombe.

“We take great pride in knowing that we, as an organization, can have such an immense impact and be a source of stability helping RMHC be there for families with sick children across the country. Knowing that we helped raise more than $11.3M to support local families this year brings us great joy.”

Tunzamali also noted that everyone from local police and politicians, plus other business owners, showed up on May 8 to promote the cause.

The amount raised this year was the highest in five years for the region.
