Fire ban issued by County of Stettler effective immediately

May 30, 2025 | 4:32 PM

A fire ban has been issued by the County of Stettler, effective immediately.

The move was made by the county as extreme dry weather and high temperatures continue.

The ban will remain in effect until further notice. Conditions will be monitored, and an update will be provided of any changes, note county officials.

As a result, all outdoor fires currently burning within the county should be put out immediately and the ignition of any new ones are prohibited.

The fire ban includes all recreational fires, burn barrels, fireworks, the use of exploding targets, charcoal barbecues, and any form of outside burning.

Off-highway vehicles and farm equipment can start fires, so the county says it’s important to inspect all equipment. Hot spots should be free of debris and mufflers should be inspected to ensure they’re working properly.

Currently, the ban doesn’t include fires contained to cooking and heating appliances and are fueled by propane, natural gas, and wood pellets. It also includes fires within industrial facilities for operational purposes, approved gas or propane fire pits, and catalytic or infrared-style heaters.
