RCMP arrest escaped prisoner Mackenzie Dawn Hardy after a month on the run

The RCMP have arrested Red Deer resident Mackenzie Dawn Hardy, 24, a remanded prisoner who had been wrongfully released from the Fort Saskatchewan Correctional Centre on April 25 due to fraudulent paperwork.

On May 27, a Revelstoke RCMP officer watched two individuals recognized as Hardy and 27-year-old David Joseph Wood walking away from a stolen vehicle.

Investigators previously determined Wood allegedly conspired with Hardy and assisted with her release. An arrest warrant had been issued for Wood on May 23

RCMP contained the area and arrested both of the suspects.

As a result, Hardy, on top of her outstanding warrants, has been charged with escaping lawful custody. Wood has been charged with assisting the escape of a prisoner, identity fraud, and uttering a forged document.

Both were taken before a Justice of the Peace and remanded into custody. They will be brought back to Alberta where they will be brought before the Alberta courts regarding future court dates.
