Lindsay Thurber esports team wins bronze at Alberta Championship

The Lindsay Thurber Comprehensive High School esports team finished third at the 2025 Alberta Esports Championship in Calgary.

The tournament was held earlier this month at Bow Valley College and is one of the provinces premier esports events. It’s also one of the largest live in person esports competitions in the country.

“Despite entering the tournament as underdogs, the Raiders impressed everyone with their determination, adaptability, and consistent improvement,” said Daniel Mills, Teacher and esports Coach at Lindsay Thurber Comprehensive High School. “More importantly, they showed incredible sportsmanship, humility, and class – on and off the virtual pitch.”

The annual tourmament attracts top teams from across Alberta including past national and international champions.

The competition features a wide-variety of games including Rocket League, Super Smash Bros., and Valorant.

The Lindsay Thurber team also featured athletes from Gateway Christian School. They competed in the Rocket League bracket with Daelyn Fraser-Moore, William Hetherington, Colten Cilpatrik, David MacPherson, and Ejhisen Tabilisma.

At the beginning of the competition, they were ranked seventh climbed the ranks.

A highlight for the team, which was formed in March, came when chose to allow a rematch after their opponents experienced technical difficulties, which wasn’t required by tournament rules.

“Their act of fairness really stood out,” Mills said. “Event organizers, coaches, and judges all praised our team’s integrity, teamwork, and respect for the game.

“I’m really proud of them. They worked hard, supported each other, and they represented our school, and our division, with pride.”
