Red Deer RCMP reports increase in break and enters in quarterly report

The Red Deer RCMP are reporting a sharp increase in break and enters from January to March 2025 compared to the same time frame last year.

According to the Red Deer municipal detachment crime statistics from January to March presented to city council on Tuesday, break and enters were up 64 per cent from 2024 to 2025.

The statistics presented were a part of the quarterly Community Policing Report which covers the Dec. 31, 2024 to March 31, 2025 reporting period.

The RCMP reported 157 break and enters from January to March this year compared to 96 reported in that same three-month stretch in 2024. However, from 2021-2025 there has been a 24 per cent drop.

In total, from January to March 2024-25 property crimes were up six per cent over the past year from 1,508 to 1,602 and persons crime was up 11 per cent from 597 to 661. In March of 2025, there was a one-person crime spree that increased the statistics for the quarter.

Among the biggest changes in persons crime was a 15 per cent drop in robberies from 23 to 15 from 2024 to 2025. During that time, there was also a 21 per cent increase in assault from 266 to 323 and a 120 per cent jump in hostage/ abduction/ kidnapping from five to 11.
