Sentencing scheduled for man charged in central Alberta murder

Sentencing has been scheduled for a Wetaskiwin man accused of murder in a central Alberta homicide over a year-and-a-half ago.

Matyrus Minde, 27, is scheduled for sentencing in Wetaskiwin Court of King’s Bench on June 9, 2025.

Minde is charged with one count of second-degree murder.

It was on Sept. 29, 2023, when Maskwacis RCMP responded to an aggravated assault on Ermineskin First Nation.

According to Mounties, the victim, a 52-year-old male resident of Maskwacis, was transported to the hospital where he later succumbed to his injuries.

Ther RCMP’s Major Crimes Unit took over the investigation, in partnership with Maskwacis RCMP General Investigation Section, Maskwacis RCMP, Red Deer Forensic Identification Unit, and the Edmonton Medical Examiner’s office.

Minde was charged following that investigation.
