The Alberta Sport Development Centre is hosting a girls in sport seminar later this month called, “She Plays.”

The free event on Saturday, May 31 at Red Deer Polytechnic begins at 3 p.m. and is a community roundtable event focused on celebrating women and girls in sports.

Attendees will hear from two-time Olympic gold medalist and Canadian sport icon Catriona Le May Doan as the headline speaker. She’ll talk about her storied career and her advocacy work in sport leadership.

“She Plays is about more than sport,” said Trevor Thomas, CEO with Central Sport, in a media release. “It’s about creating space for connection, leadership, and inspiration for girls, women, and anyone passionate about creating a more inclusive and equitable sports culture.”

People can expect thoughtful conversation, networking opportunities, and a renewed sense of motivation to support women and girls in sport.

The roundtable will also feature Dr. Lauren Sulz, associate professor in the faculty of education at the University of Alberta, and Jesse Jack, a professional hockey player and coach.

Sulz’s research focuses on strategies that promote active and health lifestyles among youth. She teaches courses in physical and health education curriculum and pedagogy.
