Cody Reynolds named interim head coach of RDP Kings hockey team

Cody Reynolds has been named interim head coach of the Red Deer Polytechnic Kings hockey team.

He will lead the Kings into the 2025-26 Alberta Colleges Athletic Conference (ACAC) season in their quest for a fourth straight league title.

Reynolds has served as an associate coach for the Kings since 2013 and will take over the reigns from former head coach Trevor Keeper who took a head coaching job at the USports level with the University of Regina Rams men’s hockey team.

“I am extremely excited and grateful to lead the Kings hockey program at RDP. We have built an incredible culture here over the years and I look forward to continuing the legacy in a new role,” said Reynolds in a media release.

“Red Deer Polytechnic is a place that is close to my heart. I met my wife here in the education program and we have built a beautiful family while coaching at an institution that started it all for us. I’d like to thank RDP for the opportunity and my family for supporting me as we look to reload for another championship season.”

Not only did they win their third straight ACAC Championship just a few months ago, but over the past three seasons, they accomplished a 45-27 regular season record and recorded a 17-2 playoff record.

Reynolds’ has an extensive coaching resume, which includes serving as head coach of the Red Deer Chiefs U18 AAA team and assistant coach of the Team Alberta U16 Male squad during the 2023 Canada Winter Games in Prince Edward Island.

Reynolds will also lead Team Alberta U16 Male at the 2025 Western Hockey League Cup in October.

“We are extremely excited to have Cody continue the legacy of excellence of the Kings hockey program as interim head coach,” said Randy Stewart, Manager, Athletics & Student Life, Red Deer Polytechnic. “As an associate coach, Cody played an instrumental role in helping the Kings win three consecutive ACAC Championships. His hard work, ability to communicate with student-athletes and attention to detail will be beneficial to RDP Kings hockey.”

Reynolds also played defence for multiple junior teams including the Lloydminster Blazers and the Olds Grizzlys in the Alberta Junior Hockey League. He also suited up for the OCN Blizzard of the Manitoba Junior Hockey League.
