The results of the 2025 Western Hockey League Expansion Draft have been released and the Red Deer Rebels have lost defenceman Doogan Pederson.

The league’s newest franchise, the Penticton Vees selected 22 players in the WHL Expansion Draft, one player from each WHL club. Meanwhile, trades with seven teams were accepted in place of the expansion draft selection.

The Vees were given a day to review the protected lists from each franchise and make their selections from the available players or negotiate trades with other WHL Clubs.

Pederson, 18, had two goals and eight assists in 33 games with the Rebels last year after he was traded to Red Deer from the Prince Albert Raiders.

In the first 32 games of the season in P.A. he also had two goals and eight assists.

Pederson was traded to the Rebels on Dec. 31 in a deal that included long time Rebels defenceman Matteo Fabrizi.

The Langley, B.C. product, who stands six-feet three-inches tall and 180 pounds will now get the opportunity to play closer to home.

Penticton will be allowed to dress four 20-year-old players in all pre-season, regular season, and playoff games during the 2025-26 WHL season only.
