Sylvan Lake RCMP charge 13-year-old after alleged knife incident

The Sylvan Lake RCMP have charged a 13-year-old following an alleged incident involving a knife on Saturday.

On May 3 at 6:54 p.m. an off-duty community police officer observed a youth robbing another youth with a knife.

Police attended the incident to locate the teenager who attempted to run on foot before police chased them down. The youth was arrested and the knife was located in their backpack.

No injuries were reported during this incident.

As a result, the RCMP have charged a 13-year-old, who can’t be named under the Youth Criminal Justice Act, with robbery and possession of a weapon for a dangerous purpose.

The youth was taken before a Justice of the Peace and released with their next court date set for July 26, 2025 at the Alberta Court of Justice in Sylvan Lake.
