Fire restriction in place for Lacombe County

May 2, 2025 | 1:54 PM

A fire restriction has been issued by Lacombe County.

Effective May 1, the restriction has been implemented as a result of extremely dry conditions, windy conditions, and a lack of precipitation in the near future.

The county has cancelled all current fire permits and suspended any fire permit requests. In addition, all existing fires that are restricted must be put out immediately.

Fires that are permitted under the restriction includes safe wood campfires, bylaw-compliant backyard fire pits, portable propane fire pits, gas or propane stoves and barbecues, and catalytic or infrared-style heaters.

Safe wood campfires are those that are in campgrounds, private lands, and backyards. They must be contained within a metal, brick, or rock fire ring, must be covered by a spark arrester screen, and comply with Lacombe County’s Fire Bylaw. There should be a person at the fire at all times and they must ensure it is extinguished before leaving.

The county also wants to remind residents of a few safety tips including risks with off-highway vehicles. Riders should frequently check for debris on hot spots and ensure mufflers and spark arrestors are functioning properly.

The public should also never leave a campfire unattended. It’s important to soak it, stir it, and soak it again until it is cool to the touch.
