May 1, 2025 | 4:25 PM

Red Deer County has approved its property tax rate bylaw for 2025, with a 1.1248 mill rate increase to farmland property, a 0.0193 mill rate decrease for residential properties and a 0.1045 decrease to non-residential properties in 2025.

Officials say these changes allow the county to collect $55.1 million in taxation to achieve its budgeted plans for 2025.

The protective services levy is decreasing to 0.5328 from 0.6140 in 2024, while the community services levy is decreasing to 0.9350 from 1.0368. The overall decrease in these rates prompts increases in the municipal rate accordingly, the county says.

Dave Dittrick, Assistant CAO, Director of Corporate Services, explained that “stronger than projected assessment growth has allowed Red Deer County to reduce residential and non-residential mill rates in 2025 while also easing the reliance on reserves to fund our capital programs.”

The province requires municipalities to levy education property taxes on its behalf based on assessment values. Overall, the education requisition has increased by $2.45 million (12.5 per cent). Rates will increase to 2.5916 for residential and farmland and to 3.8495 for non-residential.

Based on the requisition from the Parkland Seniors Housing Foundation, the Seniors Housing Levy rate will be set at 0.0292, compared to 0.0277 last year.

Additionally the provincial police levy will decrease for all property categories to 0.2245 from 0.2392.

Taxes are due June 30. For more detailed information, contact Red Deer County Centre at 403-350-2150 or visit the website.

County officials say these tax dollars contribute to infrastructure investments for 2025 such as Junction 42 upgrades, paving and gravelling, improvements to Little Red Deer Road, and more.
