Red Deer’s Sun Run marking second (and possibly final) year on May 10

Apr 21, 2025 | 2:00 PM

The second annual Sunterra Sun Run is right around the corner.

The event goes May 10, with offerings of 3 km and 5 km, plus the 100 metre and 500 metre DQ Bubble Run for little ones.

It all goes down at the Bower-Kin Community Centre, and is in support of the Bower Place Community Association, which offers various programming throughout the year to all Red Deerians.

“Whether we’re outside chasing a soccer ball, or walking on the trails, I’m just really passionate about families being outside together, and getting off their devices,” says Val Jensen, who launched the Sun Run last year after many years of putting on the PCN Women’s Fun Run.

“It’s all about getting out of the house and promoting active lifestyles.”

For Jensen, she shares that this is her run-organizing swan song after all the years of being at the helm of one thing or another. She says if someone wants to take over the Sun Run, please step forward and let her know.

Registrations for the Sun Run are being taken right up until race-time and on-site. Registration for the race and after party is available here.

The event will include a pancake breakfast from 9 a.m. to 1 p.m. in support of Central Sport, and there will be volunteers and athletes present from over 45 local sports groups, and others.

At the Sun Run, the City of Red Deer will present its Rising Sport Stars awards, starting at 9 a.m.
