Thurber MegaBowl raises $7,000 for CAWES

Apr 15, 2025 | 12:11 PM

The Central Alberta Women’s Emergency Shelter (CAWES) will receive $7,000 thanks to the recent MegaBowl event put on by students and staff at Lindsay Thurber Comprehensive High School.

The third annual event, spearheaded by teachers Mark Graham, Ryan Hunter and Turner Lachance, pitted staff and students against one another in a competitive hockey game at Servus Arena.

“We chose the Central Alberta Women’s Emergency Shelter because of the critical support they provide to some of the most vulnerable in our community,” said Chris Good, Principal at LTCHS.

“Our students showed real leadership and heart from organizing sponsorships to cheering each other on. The staff also gave it their all, both on and off the ice. It was amazing to see everyone come together for such an important cause.”

Past beneficiaries of the MegaBowl have been the Central Alberta Humane Society and Red Deer Food Bank.

CAWES provides safety, shelter, and support to women and children fleeing domestic violence.
