Residents invited to offer input on proposed design for new Civic Plaza

Apr 11, 2025 | 10:39 AM

The Town of Ponoka is asking for public input on the proposed conceptual design for a new Civic Plaza downtown.

From April 11 and 12, citizens are invited to the town’s booth at the Ponoka Trade Show to offer ideas and input on the design.

Those who stop by will be able to learn more about the project, watch a video showcasing the design, and provide feedback through a survey.

“There has been a lot of interest expressed by Ponoka citizens over the years for a community gathering space in downtown Ponoka,” said Town of Ponoka Chief Administrative Officer Sandra Lund. “We are excited to launch the design process for the proposed Civic Plaza and to invite community input on this project.”

Those who are unable to attend can also watch the video and provide feedback through the survey on letstalkponoka.ca/civic-plaza.

Paper copies of the survey are also available at the Ponoka Aquaplex , Ponoka Arena Complex, and the Town Office on the second floor of the Ponoka Civic Centre.

Public engagement will be open until Sunday, June 1.

Once public feedback is gathered, the town will create a more detailed design based on the feedback from citizens.

Construction of the new Civic Plaza will depend on future consideration and approval of the facility design, location and budget by town council.

The Civic Plaza is meant to be a multi-use public space next to the Ponoka Legion and across from the Alberta Provincial Courts building.

The current conceptual design for the Plaza includes features such as water fountains, landscaped gathering and seating areas with benches and picnic tables, public washrooms, bike racks, greenspace, lighting, and waste receptacles.
