Federal election candidates set for local ridings

Nominations for the upcoming federal election are now closed and the candidates for the four electoral districts in the Red Deer area are now set.

A total of 21 candidates representing seven different party’s have been determined for the electoral ridings of Red Deer, Ponoka-Didsbury, Battle River-Crowfoot, and Yellowhead.

Here is a list of the candidates:

Yellowhead

  1. William Stevenson (Conservative Party of Canada)
  2. Avni Soma (New Democratic Party)
  3. Michael Fark (Liberal Party of Canada)
  4. Vicky Bayford (Peoples Party of Canada)
  5. Dale Heath (Christian Heritage Party of Canada)

Ponoka-Didsbury

  1. Blaine Calkins (Conservative Party of Canada)
  2. Logan Hooley (New Democratic Party)
  3. Larry Gratton (Peoples Party of Canada)
  4. Grant Abraham (United Party of Canada)
  5. Zarnab Zafar (No Affiliation)

Red Deer

  1. Burton Bailey (Conservative Party of Canada)
  2. Elias Assefa (New Democratic Party)
  3. Ayaz Bangash (Liberal Party of Canada)
  4. Kyla Courte (Peoples Party of Canada)
  5. Ashley MacDonald (Green Party of Canada)
  6. Brandon Pringle (Christian Heritage Party of Canada)

Battle River-Crowfoot

  1. Damien Kurek (Conservative Party of Canada)
  2. James MacKay (New Democratic Party)
  3. Brent Sutton (Liberal Party of Canada)
  4. Jonathan Bridges (Peoples Party of Canada)
  5. Douglas Gook (Green Party of Canada)

In total, there are 1,959 candidates across Canada’s 343 electoral districts.

Canadian’s can head to the poll’s on Election Day on Monday, April 28 or by advanced polls from 9 a.m. to 9 p.m. on April 18, 19, 20, or 21.

Residents can also vote early at any Elections Canada office by April 22 at 6 p.m. They’re open seven days a week.

Voting by mail is also an option by applying online at the Elections Canada website or at any Elections Canada office.

To find your voting information such as your riding or nearest Elections Canada office voters can do so by entering their postal code in the website.

Everyone planning to vote must be registered which can be done through the Online Voter Registration Service or in-person at your local Elections Canada office. If can also be done at your assigned polling station on advance polling days or on election day.
