Lacombe’s Daxon Rudolph and Rebels Luke Vlooswyk named finalists for WHL’s Scholastic Player of the Year

Red Deer Rebels defenceman Luke Vlooswyk and Prince Albert Raiders defenceman Daxon Rudolph have been named finalists for the WHL’s 2024-25 Daryl K. (Doc) Seaman Memorial Trophy.

The award is presented annually to the WHL’s Scholastic Player of the Year, which is determined based on an evaluation of academic submissions by WHL education advisors.

Rudolph, who’s from Lacombe, had a great rookie season and was named a finalist for the Rookie of the Year award after scoring 41 points in 64 games.

The 17-year-old did just as well in the classroom posting a 92 per cent in health sciences 20, 91 per cent in math pre-calculus, and 91 per cent in social studies.

He’s described as a determined person with a positive attitude, who’s maturity has made him a leader on and off the ice.

Meanwhile, Vlooswyk, 18, from Calgary wrapped up a solid rookie campaign with the Rebels where he notched 17 points in 68 games.

He also did well in the classroom earning an 88 per cent overall average due to his work ethic.

He had an 87 per cent average in science 30, an 84 per cent average in social studies 20, a 95 per cent average in religious studies 35, and a 94 per cent average in leadership, character, and social responsibility.

The winners of 2025 WHL Awards will be announced from Tuesday, April 22, through Wednesday, May 7.
