Red Deer local launches video podcast highlighting Indigenous resilience

Apr 9, 2025 | 2:21 PM

A new video podcast, launched by a Red Deer local, is exploring the strength, beauty and perseverance of central Alberta’s Indigenous communities.

Tyler McKinney’s “Voices of Resilience” premiered on Apr. 8 and is now available for streaming on the TELUS STORYHIVE YouTube channel, TELUS Optik TV and Stream+.

In each episode, McKinney explores stories of cultural preservation and identity, highlights language revitalization, traditions and intergenerational connections.

Utilizing both personal journeys and insight from Elders, McKinney and his guests reflect on the resilience sustaining Indigenous culture and aim to share wisdom of the past so it may guide our future.

In 2024, he was awarded $12,000 in production funding, as well as training, community support and distribution opportunities. The project is one of 65 new Canadian and Indigenous video podcasts included in the premiere.
