Mirror Infrastructure Mapping Project underway in the Hamlet of Mirror

Apr 4, 2025 | 3:51 PM

Lacombe County launched its Mirror Infrastructure Mapping Project on Friday.

The initiative will run through May and is meant to better understand the condition and location of water and sewer systems in the Hamlet of Mirror.

County staff and specialized consultants and contractors will work to assess and map the current underground systems to make sure the county’s records are accurate and up to date. This will help improve future needed maintenance and repairs.

“This project is vital for the health and safety of our community, ensuring reliable infrastructure now and into the future,” as written in the release by Lacombe County. “We appreciate your patience and cooperation during these essential activities. Thank you for your understanding and support as we work together to improve our community.”

They’ll begin the project by visually inspecting sewer conditions and map key features such as manholes, water valves, and hydrants to name a few.

They’ll conduct ground penetrating radar (GPR) scanning to help locate underground water lines. The GPR uses radio waves to, which are safe to residents. If they’re successful, they’ll do a full scan across the hamlet.

The County also clean the sewer pipes using high-pressure water equipment followed by inspections with TV cameras. This may cause some noise temporarily.

In addition, they’ll use hydrovac equipment to confirm the locations and depths of the water lines.

The County says the work will typically take place from Monday to Friday from 7 a.m. to 7 p.m. but overnight work may occasionally happen. If overnight work is needed they’ll give residents advanced notice.

During this project, there may be temporary restrictions on roads, sidewalks, or driveway access. If your home is impacted, crews will directly notify you and ensure at least one access point remains open.

Pouring water down drains and unused sinks or tubs can help mitigate this issue. The County also recommend avoiding laundry during daytime hours when sewer cleaning is happening in your immediate area.
