Sylvan Lake town council to make budget adjustment following property assessments
The Town of Sylvan Lake has received its final 2025 property assessments, and in response to higher values than expected, town council is considering multiple options to adjust the budget.
Assessments increased by 8.5 per cent, while the draft budget estimated an increase of three per cent, and estimated a 3.38 per cent residential and commercial tax rate increase.
Council is now considering six options to respond to this difference and will make the final decision during its April 14 meeting.
Town officials indicate Option One as the direction currently favoured by council. It would include a 0.44 per cent residential and a 0.26 per cent commercial total municipal tax rate increase. It would also increase the recreation and transportation levies.
