Red Deer Public Schools hires full-time social studies coordinator

Mar 31, 2025 | 2:52 PM

Red Deer Public Schools has hired Janene Baile to lead its rollout of the new social studies curriculum.

Baile, most previously a Grade 5 French Immersion teacher at École Oriole Park, has been with the division for 12 years.

With the new K-6 socials curriculum coming out this fall, Baile will help deliver it to teachers, while developing educational resources and providing professional learning opportunities to enhance student learning.

Red Deer Public says by investing in this role, they are showing their commitment to providing all with the necessary tools.

“We are committed to supporting our teachers as they implement the new curriculum,” said Dan Lower, Deputy Superintendent. “Having a dedicated social studies coordinator will ensure our educators feel confident and well-equipped to bring meaningful learning experiences to students. Janene brings a wealth of expertise and passion, and we are excited to have her lead this work.”

Baile, herself, is a graduate of Lindsay Thurber High School.

“Social studies is all about helping students think critically, understand different perspectives, and engage with the world around them,” she said. “I look forward to working with our amazing teachers to make the new curriculum come alive in the classrooms.”
