Town of Sylvan Lake to begin water conservation on April 1

Mar 25, 2025 | 4:07 PM

The Town of Sylvan Lake has implemented mandatory water conservation beginning in April.

The annual water conservation for the town begins on April 1 until October 1, which is meant to protect the aquifer and ensure they have enough water.

All homes will have a watering ban from 10 a.m. to 7 p.m. and the town encourages residents to water by hand with a water jug, which can be done any time of day.

The town says all homes should turn off water if it’s running into the street or sewer system to prevent wasting water and money. However, if you have new sod or seed you’re allowed to water at any time.

In addition, odd numbered houses should water their lawn or garden only on odd numbered days and even numbered homes should do the same; only on even numbered days.

The town explained one of the many reasons they conserve water is because the fire department uses the same water that comes out of their taps. The town says it’s important they have enough water during the driest parts of the year.
